Rimonabant is a new anti-obesity drug. It is marketed in Europe by the name Acomplia and the same drug will be sold in United States by the name of Zimulti if approved by the FDA.
Rimonabant is used complementary to diet and exercise to help obese or overweight patients (who suffer from Type 2 diabetes and abnormal levels of fat in the blood) lose weight. This medication can also prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease and can help quit smoking.
In clinical trials patients who took Rimonabant lost up to 20 pounds in weight over the course of a year. A drop in waistline measurement was also observed.
